Slovenia tourist information

Habsburg and Venetian architecture, impressive churches, castles and monasteries, medieval cities and Renaissance mansions. Slovenia, on the southeast side of the Alps, is a unique gem waiting to be discovered. Ljubljana, the capital, is an atmospheric ‘mini-Prague’ and the town of Bled is breathtaking with a beautiful lake and hilltop castle as a backdrop. The short, but well-developed coastline offers sandy beaches and superb architecture at the towns of Koper and Piran.

Slovenia by train

Slovenia's train network is operated by Slovenske Železnice (SŽ) and will get you to most destinations in the country, although you usually require a transfer in Ljubljana. Trains are punctual and for figuring out your next train from a station, electronic signboards are a rarity (outside Ljubljana), but printed schedules are always available: odhod (yellow) means departures, while prihod (white) means arrivals.
